An anti-war exhibition in Szombathely, a Holocaust conference in Kőszeg, a German-language play in Győr

We have selected some of the offers of the Austrian Cultural Forum.

Few people know how many Hungarian programs are organized or supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum. In addition, a good part of the programs is implemented in the countryside. We now recommend two events in Vas County and one in Győr to the attention of our readers living in Western Hungary.

Ingeborg Bachmann: Writings against the War – Exhibition Opening

  • ELTE Savaria University Center, Department of German Language and Literature, Building C, Auditorium (Szombathely, Károlyi Gáspár tér 4)
  • 5 April, Friday, 11:00 a.m.
  • The exhibition is open between 5-26 April.
  • The work of the Austrian poet Ingeborg Bachmann, born in 1926, with the title „Schreiben gegen den Krieg” (Writings against the War) is at the center of this exhibition. Although this theme defined her later writings from the beginning, little attention has been paid to this aspect of her life so far. The photos and texts of the exhibition present the poet’s work in chronological order – previously unpublished texts, such as the 1945 war diary, as well as unpublished photos are also on display.

Jewish Life and Anti-Semitism in the Austro-Hungarian Border Area between 1930-1948 – Conference on the 80th Anniversary of the Holocaust in Hungary

  • Kőszeg Synagogue (Kőszeg, Várkör 38)
  • 9 April, Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. – 4:10 p.m.
  • The conference is bilingual (Hungarian and German), and the participants can listen to the presentations with simultaneous interpretation. You can find the speakers and details of the topics here. Please indicate your intention to participate in advance!

DBU: Bye Mama! / Mama muss weg – comedy

  • 10 April 10, Wednesday, 12:00 p.m.
  • Richter Terem (Győr, Aradi vértanúk útja 16)
  • The program is implemented with the support of the Goethe Institute and the Austrian Cultural Forum.

The initiative of the embassies and cultural partner organizations of Germany, Austria and Switzerland wants to convince students, parents and those interested in the German language that it is worthwhile to learn German. They have already joined the 2024 Wunderbar Festival with more than a hundred programs across the country. One of the programs is DBU: Goodbye, Mama! / Mama muss weg, a comedy recommended for over 16-year-olds.
